Torech Ungol, also known as Shelob's Lair, is located in the pass of Cirith Ungol, and is a possible location in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. It serves as an impassable labyrinth in which to ensnare the enemies of Mordor. It was also home to the spider Shelob, daughter of Ungoliant.

History[]

Before Sauron had returned to Mordor, Shelob had gotten sufficient food, but as his power grew living things forsook his borders and she grew ever hungrier. Uruks had to use the tunnel and often delved new passages to avoid the spider, yet she found other ways to ensnare them and survive. When the Uruks were lucky enough to escape, at the end of this lair was a tunnel. The Uruks called the door in the tunnel the Undergate, and it led to the Under-way that ascended to the watch tower. At the far end were double doors that led into the bottom of the tower.

In this place Shelob had free reign to do whatever she wished; this freedom is allotted by the Dark Lord Sauron in return for her services.

Etymology[]

In Sindarin, "ungol" is a word for "spider" and "torech" can be "lair", so the Sindarin translation can be "Lair of the Spider".
